UPDATE:
This giveaway is now closed. I will collect all the entries from the comments below and Twitter, then use random.org to pick one winner and announce it on Friday. Thanks for such an enthusiastic response! Stay tuned for the next giveaway, which I plan to announce next week.
Welcome to DesignBlogList's first giveaway! The first item is a handmade box from master box-maker
Doug Stowe. Doug wrote the book, literally, on box making (several books actually, available
here). His boxes are exquisitely crafted out of domestic hardwoods. (See Doug's website for information on his commitment to using domestic hardwoods instead of exotic lumber). The drawing is for a box made from hickory with walnut accents and a contrasting lid made from persimmon.
Visit Doug's website at
http://www.dougstowe.com/ and his Etsy store
here to see more of his work. He writes a wonderful blog called
Wisdom of the Hands, which I have added to my blogroll at
Furnitude.
UPDATE: simpler rules. To enter, just leave a comment here or send a Twitter message using the TwitThis button on this page. Do either or both by Midnight Eastern Time, May 13. Each method counts as an entry, so enter as many times as you like. One winner will be picked at random. Thanks and good luck!

Thanks Mitch for hosting this contest. I've twittered this so as to enter.
I've recently had the idea that what with the downturn in the economy, it might be fun to have an craftsman to craftsman sale or exchange of smaller creations. As craftsmen, we sometimes are neglectful in supporting each other by making purchases. This could serve multiple purposes. Keep the creative juices flowing, allow us each to build a small collection of crafts-persons work that one could not normally afford, potentially create a secondary market.
Just an idea.
(Link works!)
Great idea using a giveaway to promote the Blog. I have added an update to my facebook page and hope it brings in more woodworkers.
I also second Will's comments.

This is a great gift, I have all of Doug's books, it would be great to have an actual box made by him!
I have "The Complete Illustrated Guide to Box Making" and it is simply the best book on box making out there.
It would be an honor to have one of his boxes.
I would love a box by Doug Stowe
looks beautifully crafted
Oh, I love boxes, boxes old and new, the giveaway box is very clean and classic.
My husband, a woodworker as well, loves boxes -- something he inherited from his father. We have one of Doug's books, and I would love for my husband to have this gorgeous box for his collection. Thanks for the opportunity!
I'll second what Starwind said about "thanks for the opportunity" and, despite the fact that it lowers my chances of winning [grin], publicize all the links here on my blog.
That is definitely a beautiful box. And I definitely respect Doug's stance on domestic wood. I'll continue to use imports for pens and accents, but I think you should use local wood as much as possible for larger pieces.
Nice box.
Excellent! Go contests~!
I've posted the link on my facebook. Looks like a nice gift for after Mothers Day!
That's a smart use of contrasting woods.
This box is beautful

Very Nice!!! Count me into the contest.
Christina - my brother does some wood-turning and box-making (we've looked at boxes by artisan craftsmen at fairs and just this morning went to Rocklers, where I learned about woods like tiger wood, amboyna wood, purple heart wood, etc. - very fascinating!), so I can appreciate the difficulty and craftmanship and just ultra-careful work that went into making this amazing giveaway box!
My dad collects wooden boxes. I will tell him about Doug Stowe.
Doug Stowe is to boxes what Sam Maloof is to rocking chairs. He's not just a treasure to his home state but also to our country and the whole woodworking community.
Sign me up please!!
